My Husband Has Been Having Problems With A Red, Swollen,

My husband has been having problems with a red, swollen, uvula, small clear whitish blister on uvula, uvula looks elongated and side lying. Says he feels like when he is swallowing saliva, it's going into his trachea. (Not likely, but that is his subjective symptom and ear pain, with no evidence of redness or swelling of the tympanic membrane. Is this just a case of a viral infection?
