My Husband Has Been Having Trouble For Awhile Now With

My husband has been having trouble for awhile now with his bowels.When I got home today he was telling me that the mucus he has been passing has gotten worst and now it just runs from him without any worning and he has pain the lower half of his abadome.We live in the country and I don't know what to do to help him.Do you think this is serious.
