My Husband Has Been Hospitalized For His Third Bout Out

My husband has been hospitalized for his third bout out bacterial pneumonia since October. I understand that viral pneumonia is more contagious than bacterial. He expects to be discharged before Christmas. He's concerned about being around family with young children because of the colds, etc. they often have. Is that a reasonable concern?
