My Husband Has Pre Diabetic Condition And Has Been On

My husband has pre diabetic condition and has been on 500 mg of metformin and recently started on 1000mg divided in 2 doses once a day. After one week he has severe diarrhea. Could this be a result of the increased amount of metformin? He does not feel sick and has no other symptoms.
