My Husband Has Suffer 3 Strokes This Year 2 Severe

My husband has suffer 3 strokes this year 2 severe one effecting left side with weakness, one month later severe one effecting right side with weakness, he spent a total of 4 weeks in rehab, 3 with 1st stroke and 1 week with last stroke and then left on his own. In August he had a TIA, now he has some mucus that seems to be worse in the night time and in morning after arising, we have been advised by our doctor to use MucusEx to thin the mucus which help for a while now it doesn't seem to be helping is there anything you can suggest us trying?
