My husband is 81, suffering with GCA since Jult 2016,put on prednisone October 2016,biopsy showed GCA on both sides, he was hospitalized Nov, Dec, and January with UTIs, nursing homes for 50 days and back in hospital for Another UTI. He was on prednisone even now. We crept down to 10 mg in January 2017. He was dehydrated each time he went in hospital. He spent Christmas week in hospital. In Feb 2017 at South health rehab hospital. The last time he was in the hospital was Feb 9,2018. Still creeping down on prednisone, 5 mg one day and 2and a halalternating days.
He had mitral valve surgery in 2016 (repair) and January 2017 out of nowhere his heart was racing, A fantastic Dr Cuello saved him, with medicine and cardio version (?) in March of last year. The last few months have been quiet for my husband BUT his toes have been curling up and his two feet cling to each other. After all of this my husband has lost 40 pounds and has not been able to use his walker for five months. Our Rhuemotologist has made an appt. with a neurologist for next week or so. Oh he has had a drop foot since sept of 2017. Our Primary told us to go home and call Hospicebut we have not done that. We have Home Care and my husband does physical therapy and occupational therapy twice each every week. He had an infection recently in his foot but when the toe was cut, the podiatrist said it bled well. Lots of questions. One other fact my husband had PMR for about six months about 12 years ago. HELP!
