My Husband Is Being Treated For Bacteremia Post Prostate Biopsy

My husband is being treated for bacteremia post prostate biopsy and has a picc line to self administer iv antibiotics. how do we know if the bacteria is gone prior to his picc line being removed. is there certain tests that verify his recovery or do they just take the picc line out and wait and see.
