My Husband Is In A Memory Care Unit For Vascular

My husband is in a Memory Care Unit for vascular dementia. He has always taken several Tums/ day. I would estimate about 6-8.He takes them for indigestion and when his legs have cramps. His PMD has prescribed that he can"self-administer" but the facility where he is staying feels this might be dangerous. He only has a maximum of 15 in a bottle each day and has never taken the full amount. Can you guide me to some resources to help resolve this problem. He is so dependent for many things in his life, I hate for him to loose this piece of independence unless it is really a problem. Thank you, Nancy
