My Husband Is In Kidney Failure And On Hemodialysis- Was

My husband is in kidney failure and on hemodialysis- was receiving procrit and iron at times- hgb was stable above 10 on hemodialysis-- switched to pd and was not given 12 epogen shots or iron / his hgb dropped about 1 pt each week. His hgb went to 5.8. After 5 united of blood - it would go up and drop some.... it stabilized and began climbing after the last transfusion. They also started letting my husband give epogen shots to himself 3 times weekly. His hgb if currently 8.6. How low would it have had to drop to cause risk of heart attack or death? He has now had 2nd colonoscopy in less than 2 years, clear.., endoscopy... clear---- did have a small amount of fecal
Occult blood but did not find anything on the endoscopy--- had the capcam last Monday-- no results yet--- we are very upset-- lost his job during this time also after having been director of finance for 13 years. We are very upset about the situation that has occurred. Thoughts? Advice? Now they want to up epogen to get him to 9.

He is currently taking 20,000 units of epogen three times weekly. Thank you! Kathy Maxwell
