My Husband Is Waking Up Every Night With Severe Leg

My husband is waking up every night with severe leg cramps. They seem to run down the outside of his leg. It's so bad that is waking him up. I have to stretch it for him because he is in so much pain. I'm thinking it's more than a potassium deficiency.
