My Husband Needs To Have Knee Replacement, He Had Shots

My husband needs to have knee replacement, he had shots put in his legs with chicken stuff, not sure what it's called and it's been 2 weeks and they are extremely swollen and hard. What is happening? He is ok as long as he doesn't move, but when he does move it is painful.
