My Husband Passed A String Of Blood About 1 1/2

My husband passed a string of blood about 1 1/2 long in his urine last night and had small clots twice after that when urinating. It seemed to subside part of today but he is seeing small clots again. He has not had any previous history of problems in this area.
What are your thoughts on this (he will call his primary in the morning).
