My Husband Was Bitten By A Dog On The Thumb

My husband was bitten by a dog on the thumb about one week ago. I rushed him to Urgent Care where they have cleaned the wounds and did an x-ray. He has a very deep, large puncture on the pad of his thumb and another on the corner of cuticle, and the bone appears chipped under the cuticle, as well. They gave him a prescription for antibiotics and told him to put antibiotic ointment on it and to come back in a few days. The owner of the dog says that the dog was current on vaccinations. His thumb shows no sign of infection but we are noticing some dark discoloration in his thumb and he is experiencing numbness and tingling in his thumb. Should we be concerned and return to the doctor's office or is this okay?
