My Husband Woke Up A Half Hour Ago With Shooting

My husband woke up a half hour ago with shooting pain in the toe next to the little toe. I just gave him a banana to eat and a glass of water to drink, thinking it might be a charlie horse type of thing. If it continues, should I consider taking him to the ER?
