My Internist Believes I May Have Hemochromatosis And Is Doing

My internist believes I may have hemochromatosis and is doing further testing. I was completely surprised when liver disease was listed as an issue. My mother had been diagnosed with liver disease and her death certificate listed hepatic encephalopathy as cause of death. Is this genetic and could I have gotten it from my mother?
