My Last Blood Tests Showed That My Red Blood Count

My last blood tests showed that my red blood count and my platelets were very low. The doctor has ordered a stool sample to test for blood in the stool. I am no longer having periods and have had no surgeries or other blood loss issues. What could this indicate?
