My Last Couple Period Have Been Very Irregular. They Usually

My last couple period have been very irregular. They usually last 7-8 days and are instead lasting 4-5 days. The color of this last period was also brown in color. I have also been having lower back pain and seems my hormones have been amplified. Thought I was pregnant so I've taken a few home pregnancy tests and they are all negative. What could be wrong?
