My mom is 67 and began losing weight in November. She went to the doctor who ran a series of tests and they discovered her liver enzymes were at near 750. She was admitted to the hospital mid-Feb because both her liver and kidney counts were so high, she had lost 40 pounds in 3-4 months, and she had absolutely no energy. They ruled out TB, Hepatitis, and numerous other things, and by process of elimination they determined it was Sarcoidosis, so they sent her home and put her on steroids. She seemed to be improving until last week. All of a sudden she lost all energy and is almost lathargic and she has now lost a total of 50 pounds (now weighs 108 lbs). We took her to the emergency room Tuesday and they gave her an IV and sent her home. She's so weak she can't walk, can barely eat or drink (I had to give her Pedialyte through a straw, like a bird, last night), and she's now sleeping 18-20 hours a day. I'm trying to convince my dad to take her somewhere else but the doctors keep convincing him it is Sarcoidosis of the Liver. Can you please tell me if this sounds right or if we should be looking for other diagnosis'?
