Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom is 72 years old and had no medical problems until she lost her speech 5 weeks ago. A trip to the E.R. and a cat scan showed a very large arachnoid cyst (about the size of a goose egg) which was removed using the cyst fenestration method. She had been home for 2 when an episode of spasms from the waist up with loss of control of facial movements and speech landed her back in the E.R. this morning. Ativan was the only medication to stop the spasms. Repeat cat scan today shows the cyst has returned, much smaller but bleeding. There is aparrently also another small bleed on the back of her brain that is apparently either from trauma or a seizure. The hospital staff continues to tell me she is stable and is in no danger. The neurosurgeon will be in this afternoon. Where will we go from here and based on statistics what is the most common prognosis?
