My Mom Is Having Sharp Pains On Her Righthand Side,

My mom is having sharp pains on her righthand side, almost lower back. She went to the doctor's last week and they told her to take some motrin thinking she could have spained something. It got better and now the sharp pain is back. Any ideas on what it could be?
