My Mother, 88 Yrs Old, Has Had A Very Large

My mother, 88 yrs old, has had a very large hiatal hernia for years, has suffered greatly with heartburn, sometimes vomiting after eating certain spices...she was totally healthy, no meds except for Thyroid medicine. Never smoked or used alcohol, though she does eat small amounts, she is too heavy. She has been on B12 shorts due to fatigue the last year. Also she has had shortness of breath & an extra amount of hoarseness in her voice. The end of Jan., she fell hard, striking her front, in her chest, & forehead area, & has really not felt well since. She has complained of the fall shaking her up & not feeling like herself since, yet refused to go to her doctor or ER. The first of March, she felt a discomfort in her chest & was taken to ER to check on it. They found she was in A-Fib. Medicine &. Blood thinners were given, she went back to normal mode, kept overnight & sent home with 2 heart meds, no blood thinner. She has been extremely exhausted, more than normal short of breath, her pulse went from steady to irregular after a few weeks so back to ER. The Doctor claimed she will always be in controlled A-fib, stating she never went out of A-Fib. We stated that was not true, & asked why she was not sent home with a blood thinner if she left in A-Fib. Said it's going to be her new "normal" and did order blood thinner. She is not able to lift her arms to comb her hair without stopping several times because of being out of breath. Her internist got the ER reports & again noticed how large the x-Ray showed her hiatal hernia bulges up from her stomach, & commented that a lot of her her shortness of breath could be the hernia pushing up into her diaphragm. Question 1) for the A-Fib... (Her chest area was out of alignment when she went into the ER the first time, she could not turn her head to one side, the dr adjusted this, wondering if her hard fall could have brought the A-fib on & wonder if being that she is now on blood thinner, if at her age, she could be 'shocked' back from A-Fib? (She has not had any heart issues at all). Question 2). We were told there is a new procedure, not regular surgery, a type of procedure that the 'flap' can be repaired to keep the 'juices' from her stomach coming up...a non-invasive procedure...if so would she be a candidate at her age & now with A-fib? She, nor any of children, would hate to think this is going to be her 'normal,' when a few months ago she was a very heathy person...thank you, Susan
