My Mother Has A Bladder Infection After Taking One Dose

My mother has a bladder infection after taking one dose of nitrofurantoin she had severe shaking and chills -- occurred about 4 hours after taking the antibiotic. Gave her acetaminophen and Benadryl which helped to relieve shaking is this an allergic reaction?
