My Mother Is 92 Years Old And In Relatively Good

My mother is 92 years old and in relatively good health for her age. She is experiencing pain from the base of her skull. She has a red patch at the base of her skull. Her pain is relieved when she pushes on the patch. There is no swelling, crusty patches and it does not itch. She has had so much pain she took Tylenol with codeine. This is very unusual for her. Any ideas?
