My Mother Is Experiencing Swelling Of Both Hands And Has

My mother is experiencing swelling of both hands and has terrible nerve pain with it. She has been
diagnosed with arthritis only and we can't understand why there would be such swelling of the whole hand and wrist to the point where she can't open a jar. She had a CT scan done and they identified calcium deposits on her thyroid and will follow up with an ultra sound. Could the thyroid have any thing to do with the swelling of the hands. She is on cumadin.
