My Mother Told Me About Times When She Cannot Move

My mother told me about times when she cannot move or speak. Almost like she is trying to speak, but no one can hear her. Move but, nothing is working. The other day everything pretty much quit working and she had to almost roll, fling herself out of bed with the muscles that she could get to work. What could it be?
