Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My name is Diane and I broke my 5th Metatarsal bone on June 16, 2016. I saw an orthopedic surgeon who said I did not need surgery after reviewing my x-ray although I had a break that was both split to the left and right. It was still attached in a small way. All the toes had a nice alignment and not out of place. A flat cascade. The doc said all I needed was a post operative shoe and not the boot. He said I did not need to sleep with it. I also had it wrapped in an ace bandage all the time. I got crutches and that was difficult them progressed to a knee scooter which I loved once I found out they exist. I iced and the bruising went away in 2 weeks. I had the post op shoe on for 10 weeks I transitioned to a sneaker on Sept 6. and started walking with a cane and sneakers progressing each day with longer and longer walks. The problem is that the bone moved and somehow attached above the other bone. Casacade still perfect I can wiggle all my toes and move them independently. The doc says this is fine and the x-ray is not as important and the way the foot is aligned and looks. I am walking well now although I still have a dull ache in the toe area by the 5th metatarsal several time a day on and off. Even when sitting down. Please advise what I can do to heal this dull persistent ache. On a scale of 1 to 10 its either a 2 or 3. I don't want this pain for the rest of my life. I am 57 years old. I will do whatever it takes. Please advise. Thank you Diane
