My Name Is Sathish. 55 Years. I Have Fair Colour.

My name is Sathish. 55 years. I have fair colour. But my face have black shades at foreheads and above the cheeks. Last year I saw one Dermatologist. Dr. has prescribed some 3 ointments. after applying these ointments (one of it contains steroid) some time the black shade gone and skin become clear. But once I stopped applying the ointments the shades appeared. I am afraid to use such ointments for a long period. Now I am applying fair & lovely and it shows slight difference. Dr. I want your advise.
