My Period Are Usually Very Heavy And Very Regular. We

My period are usually very heavy and very regular. We have ben trying for a baby for 9 months. I had some mid cycle bleeding this month, thought I was pregnant did a test on the day before and the day my period was due and got a negative. It's now been 3 days and is really only tiny amounts of dark blood. My breasts are painful on the outside edge and have been for about two weeks now . Is this normal?
