My Period Isn't Normal, I Stopped Take My Birth Control

My period isn't normal, I stopped take my birth control that I've been on for years and I haven't has sex since my period. I've taken a pregnancy test and it was negative, what's up? I still have cramping like I normally would but I only spotted for few days.
