My Periods Are Very Irregular And Always Have Been. I

My periods are very irregular and always have been. I could go months without getting my period and know I'm not pregnant. I just received my first set of birth control pills and was told to start the Sunday after my period. I don't know when my next will be though because of how irregular they are. Is it okay to start them now?
