My Question Is About Birth Control. I Am Getting Married

My question is about birth control. I am getting married in 3 weeks and have avoided birth control because of side effects. I have a gynocologist appointment with a new doctor due to a recent move. To compound problems, I am on my period the week of the appointment. What if any are options I may be offered? Would it be wise to wait until after the wedding and honeymoon to begin birth control? I should have handled this months ago!
