My Sister Fell Tonight When Her Legs Gave Way And

My sister fell tonight when her legs gave way and as she tried to get up she got dizzy and fell again. She ended up going to the hospital and they released her and felt she may have vertigo. This happened just before Christmas then 2 weeks before that. How can someone be diagnosed for vertigo.
