My Son Broke His Calcaneus. He Has Had 13 Surgeries

My son broke his calcaneus. He has had 13 surgeries on it at a reputable hospital in New York City. He has been in a boot had a cast put on it and has been on vancomysen by intravenous twice a day and it still has not healed. He is scheduled for another surgery Tuesday.
What could be the reasonIt has not healed.
