My Son Has A Half Inch Purple Spot Engulfing Bottom

My son has a half inch purple spot engulfing bottom of ear lobe and a purple spot a little higher on the back of ear . He recalls no injury a little sensitive to touch in those areas. We returned from Dominican Republic 5 days ago . No symptoms there but could this be related.? It is also 11degrees in chicago but he says he was not out more than a few minutes walking home from school.
