My Son Is Eleven Years Old. He Plays Competitive Sports

My son is eleven years old. He plays competitive sports year round. The last few months, he seems to get winded very easily. He says it doesn't hurt, that he just has trouble catching his breathe. He doesn' t seem to be wheezing when this happens. My wife says he's out of shape. I disagree. Do you have any suggestions?
