My Son Is Exactly A Week And A Day Old.

My son is exactly a week and a day old. I noticed he had some unusual mucus build up on his left eye on Saturday oct 10th and today woke up with a bunch around his whole eye and he has a film like substance over his eye and it is a little swollen. Should I take him to the Er or is there a home remedy I can use like plain vasoline or petroleum jelly? His temp is fine and it doesn't seem to bother him.
