My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD and after doing some reading I believe I have it as well.
As a child I always got in trouble in class and teachers suggested Ritalin for me but my mother refused to medicate me.
I dont have all the symptoms I've read about that adults experience when having ADHD. For instance I'm not an underachiever, I have my doctorate in chemistry but chemistry is about the only subject I can focus on since I'm interested in it. I do have a tendenacy for impulsive decisions and I do drink whiskey on a regular basis although I'm not sure I'd classify it as substance abuse. I do go through periods of times I feel depressed and I am definitely easily bored. I am also very forgetful.
I am looking to potentially try to use some medications to see if it improves any of my problems.
