My Son Was Throwing A Football With His Brother And

My son was throwing a football with his brother and the football hit the middle finger of his left hand. It is a little blue, he can move it a little but it does hurt. We have a splint to stableize it. Should we ice it first then put on the splint or not. If it does not feel better by tomorrow we can go to a doctor.

Advise?
