My Son Who Is 3 Has Been Prescribed Lactulose For

My son who is 3 has been prescribed lactulose for constipation. I have been giving him 20ml for 4days but have now stopped it as he's getting very painful stomach cramps from it,. How long should it take for the cramps to stop and for the lactulose be totally out of his system? Thanks
