My Sons Dr. Treatment Has Been Using Ativan And Dilaudid.

My sons Dr. treatment has been using ativan and dilaudid. Had some very bad side effects. ( He has a strange reactions to bone marrow transplant Doctors think, not sure.) In hospital at UCSF San Francisco almost a month. Is this something that needs to be discontinued and what could they replace Ativan with?
