My Son's Eardrum Just Ruptured. He Is 11 Years Old

My son's eardrum just ruptured. He is 11 years old with Autism and really wants to know what exactly that means. I am researching to try to better explain. Also, he is hearing a lot of swooshing and sort of like a plastic bag being scrunched. He wants to know if he's going to be able to hear correctly again. Our pediatrician put him on Omnicef, which he took about 2 hours ago for the first dose.
