My Tonsil On My Right Side Is Sore And Hurts

My tonsil on my right side is sore and hurts when i swallow. I was just wondering what this could be and if there is anything i could take or do to relive the soreness. I smoke everyday also. And i thought this could also be the reason my tonsil is sore.
