My Two And A Half Year Old Used To Occasionally

My two and a half year old used to occasionally make a loud gulping/squeal sound. She now does it constantly and with a recent cold she will make the noise every few minutes due to drainage when she's sleeping. Our pediatrician thinks it's a habit but how do we known if there are any ENT issues?
