My Urologist Told Me That 85% Of Post Menopausal Women

My urologist told me that 85% of post menopausal women have bacteria in their urine and have no symptoms so we don't treat it. I am almost 70 and have suddenly developed, unknowingly, a bladder infection and incontinence. When I was treated with antibiotics my infection cleared up as did the incontinence. I was happy but shocked by this information because I'm a nurse, my husband a physician, and I actually think I resent the casual mention of post menopausal not being treated for a bladder infection. I was not able to have my hip surgery done until this infection was cleared up. Plus how many asymptomatic women might not be incontinent if said bacteria in their post menopausal bladder were treated and cleared up?
