My Wife Developed Severe Cramping In Her Lower Abdomen This

My wife developed severe cramping in her lower abdomen this afternoon. She is pretty much in tears. She fears it is just gas but that seems unlikely in my opinion, I would certainly believe gas is not ever that severe. She feels as though it might pass but I fear a concern with the appendix. Any specifc questions or probing points I should query?
