My Wife Has An Iud And Doesn't Have Pain Normally

My wife has an iud and doesn't have pain Normally but just after sex this last time she experienced sharp crippling abdomen pain. She is worried something went wrong with the iud. Is this a common experience for women? She had an iud before for 3 years and nothing like this ever happened.
