My Wife Has Have Itching In The Ears For Several

My wife has have itching in the ears for several months and was recently diagnosed with a fungus inside the ear. After cleaning and applying treatments of antifungal powder to anti fungal oil drops the fungus returns. Is this a chronic condition for some people? How many different types of treatments are there for this condition?
