Okay, So I Just Read About The Dirty Kitchen Sponge.

Okay, so I just read about the dirty kitchen sponge. I don't mind microwaving it, but the kitchen sponges that I buy have "scrub material" on one side--kind of a plastic substance. I want to make sure that if I nuke it for a minute, I'm not releasing something toxic into the air of my kitchen environment. Any info on this?
