Over The Past Year I Have Had One Day Out

Over the past year I have had one day out of each cycle with heavy bleeding and clots. I change my tampon about every 10-15 for several hours. Today I've had to change every 30 minutes for the past 6-7 hours, now I'm bleeding heavily and going through tampon every 5 minutes with heavy clots. I took an iron supplement a few hours ago that I don't usually take, could this have caused the heavier bleeding?
