Please Help. I Can See Pure Darkness When I Try

Please help. I can see pure darkness when I try to look out one eye after a small period of time.
This happens in both eyes, but only when one of them is closed. The darkness looks like when I have my eyes closed like if both my eyes were closed. Is this normal?
